What is a KPI dashboard in Excel

A KPI dashboard is one sheet that shows where each key metric stands against its target and which way it is moving. Instead of scrolling through rows of numbers, the team sees revenue, costs, margins and cash on one screen, each with a status: on track, at risk or off track. Built in Excel, it stays a normal workbook: every number is a formula you can open, check and change.

How to build this KPI dashboard

You do not need to set up pivot tables or write formulas yourself. The dashboard is generated inside a native Excel file:

  1. Upload the spreadsheet with your metrics and targets.
  2. Pick a color palette; the KPI dashboard type is already set.
  3. Preview every sheet of the generated workbook before paying.
  4. Download the .xlsx file and keep working with it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.

What to include in a KPI dashboard

Keep the first screen to the handful of metrics that drive decisions: usually revenue, gross margin, operating costs and cash. Give each one a target, so the dashboard can say on track or off track instead of just showing a number. Add a period selector to compare this month with the previous one, and a trend chart for the metrics that move slowly. Everything else can live on supporting sheets.

Frequently asked questions

A table with a period column (month or quarter), the metrics you track and, ideally, a target for each. Without targets the dashboard compares each period with the previous one instead.

The file is a native .xlsx workbook, so it opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Apple Numbers. Formulas and charts carry over; a few Excel-specific features may look slightly different in other apps.

Each metric is compared with its target: 100% or more is on track, 80% to 100% is at risk, below 80% is off track. For metrics where lower is better, such as costs, the comparison is reversed.

Yes. Every sheet of the generated workbook is shown as a preview first. You pay only to download the final Excel file.
